As a man of faith I should celebrate

GETTING religion is the first hurdle in the world's longest race, starting in Iowa yesterday and ending at the White House in November.

Over here, this is the last leap politicians would make, if at all. Our ex-PM simply didn't do God' in office for fear of being thought loopy.

Tony Blair then chose to become RC at Christmas when even hardened Brits allow the Almighty 15-minutes of tinsel and fame.

American politicians wear Jesus stickers alongside rosettes, and when the polls slump they turn up the God dial.

"I trust conversions on the road to Damascus, not on the road to Des Moines," said a minor candidate of another whom he accused of getting godlier on the road to Iowa.

Surprise Iowan winner Baptist minister Mike Huckabee says his faith in God defines him'.

He tells voters to get to their knees and pray for caucus wisdom'. Senator Barack Obama, the shock Republican winner, was baptised at 26 and declares that faith guides' his values.

Mitt Romney's campaign is bannered Faith in America', and promises that his Mormon faith will inform my presidency'.

United Methodist Hilary Clinton, a sad Iowan third, used to host church picnics'.

As a man of faith I should celebrate. My faith in man, sadly, makes me pause.

Yes, let’s have more influence of religion on politics; a shining example of how to make the world as safer place. As demonstrated by the Middle East, Yugoslavia, Northern Ireland amongst others.

Religion serves to provide further divisive influences on society and stop real, life saving progress. (See “stem cell research”)

The suggestion that any US politician is religious is laughable; they are claiming religion is areas where they think it would get them more votes. Pure and simple.

Intelligent US political correspondents recognise this for what it is – gallery politics and a potential subversive threat to the constitution of the Unites States. Specifically the first amendment to the constitution and the separation of religion from the executive, judiciary and legislative branches of government.

By the way Rev,
“Senator Barack Obama, the Shock republican Winner”

Is , er, a democrat.

Up to the usual levels of factual accuracy – or trying to mislead?

Barack Obama comments as follows:
“the conservative leaders of the Religious Right will need to acknowledge a few things as well.
For one, they need to understand the critical role that the separation of church and state has played in preserving not only our democracy, but the robustness of our religious practice.”

Mike Huckerbee comments:
“That's why when people say, 'We ought to separate politics from religion,' I say to separate the two is absolutely impossible”
"homosexuality is an aberrant, unnatural, and sinful lifestyle, and we now know it can pose a dangerous public health risk”

-Mike Huckabee , one of Judicial Watch’s “10 most corrupt politicians” and baptist minister ………..No surprise there.
(funded by tobacco companies, by the way. Typical political and religious hypocracy)
(creationist nutter)
(destroyed hard drives of computers in his office – there’s a good, honest man for you.......)

Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith has come under direct attack and ridiucle from Mike Huckerbee. Once again religion proving to be divisive even amongst allies and serves to take public attention away from real issues.

Hillary? Don’t get me started. She makes Cardinal Teflon Tony look sincere.
