People must be responsible for themselves

THERE are things needing to be said that have, for far too long, been left unsaid.

And why has that been so? Because of the liberal, airy-fairy, misplaced do-gooders. But we must ask ‘Where has all this bending over backwards got us?’ It’s got the country where we are – spiralling out of control.

Five stabbings over the weekend - Bolton, Bristol but mainly London.

Why is it that these young boys and men feel so aggressive, so angry, and frustrated that they need to settle their disputes by violence.

Is it discipline, drugs, drink, lack of a father figure, or what?

First we must find the cause, then the remedy and pretty damn quick before it contaminates the rest of society.

This ‘pussy footing’ around must stop, and an end put to this ‘I’m a victim’ culture where everything is somebody else’s fault.

A way must be found to make people accept responsiblity for themselves.

If you drink or take drugs it’s because you want to.

You’re fat because you eat too much.

Having a baby is not an accident – it’s the result of something you personally decided to do.

At a meeting the other day a man complained that his wife, who’d had a slight stroke, couldn’t get into the bath and had waited eight weeks for the council to install a shower.

They’d a family of grown up children. Now wouldn’t you have thought they could have done something between them?

Why didn’t they? Because we have fostered the attitude that ‘They’ should do it.

And at that same meeting a gentleman said his next door neighbour was housebound, she’d had a slight stroke couldn’t manage the doorstep and ‘They’ – the council – were taking months to fix ‘a bit of a step’.

You’d have thought the neighbours could do it? Why didn’t they?

Probably scared to death of being sued if something went wrong.

The entire country is suffering because of this pernicious ‘Let’s sue’ or ‘It’s not my fault Guv’ malaise and we must start to fight it.

Margo visited a friend, not so long back, in hospital who complained the nurses wouldn't cut her toenails so did Margo do the honourable thing whilst visiting her friend?
A good friend would have without question but Margo made a point of telling us about her friend's grumble in her weekly column.
Very easy to critise, very easy to pass the buck because it isn't one's responsibility isn't it?

Hi Blondie, you hit the nail on the head with the word responsibility the nurses would not be able to cut the toenails even if they had wanted to,not there job it's a chiropodist's job, in the old days a nurses would have nipped into the ward office, got a pair of clippers and done the job in a few minutes, if she tried it now she would probably get disciplined, and if Margo had tried to do the job,she would have been frog marched out. With the way thing's have developed in the UK, your frightened of helping any body, in case you finish up in court getting sued. and the one doing the suing his probably on legal aid, and even if you get the claim dismissed, its very rare you would get cost.

I saw the Tower lit up in lights for the first time. It's Like Blackpool!

I Think it is something Margo has every right to be proud of. And if the rich can't be honoured to support the poor they may as well give them something nice to look at.

I like it!

I like Margo!! I took her photograph last year and sent her a copy. She sent me a lovely e.mail of thanks. She has no "edge" to her in spite of her "money" I used to see her in the Refreshment Bar in Northgate and evryone knew her - so don't slag her off, please. What Tower is Ken Shuffles talking about? There are rumbles about lighting up Darwen Tower - now that would be a land mark (and a miracle!!)

Hi Amazed, about lighting up Darwen Tower what next you will be wanting the vote, just kidding, but some thing ells has struck me lately, since the introduction of the new registration system, for the sending in of comments, they seem to have dried up, come on East Lancashire get your registration done and lets hear from you, quite often the comments are better than the article.

You know her i have met her too and so have countless others and we will all see a different," Edge."

Margo mostly talks dribble then trips herself up with her hypocritical rants leaving herself wide open for critism which at times she rightfully deserves.

It's very easy to sit at home and criticise anybody. But I think what Margo has written regarding responsibilities and the demise of our society is correct. Finding the cause of knife crime is not possible as there are so many factors in the equation. The first and most important action necessary to reduce the crimes is to have a suitable punishment, one that really hurts. Never mind how we will upset and traumatise the criminals, it's the victims who must be regarded first, not the perpetrator. The punishment must fit the crime. This will halt the downward trend and when that is achieved, then we can look at some of the causes.

Why do young people settle their differences with violence,Margo? Is that a SERIOUS question?! Why,it's because of ALCOHOL. Oh,but isn't it ALCOHOL that has put you in the lifestyle you do NOT deserve...?
You incessantly prattle on about the problems of society, yet happily live off the ill-gotten gains yourself! You make me sick to the stomach, you overweight and bloated hypocrite...

From Centaur - It's very easy to sit at home and criticise anybody.

Yes and isn't Margo good at that?

But I think what Margo has written regarding responsibilities
and the demise of our society is correct

I totally agree with what she has written but the point is she is as guilty as the next person and doesn't practise what she preaches.

It might not be her responsibility but did she offer to help put a step in for the lady or help the other one have a wash?

Is this Margo's responsibility? Of course not but a good caring christian person might think differently.

Quote] From Margo - Because WE have fostered the attitude that ‘They,’ should do it.

Margo," WE," are not all guilty of this attitude and there are some very good people out there.

Don't judge all by the same way you think.

What has Margo Grimshaw done to the people who personally attack her via her weekly column? Some of you sound very vindictive! It's good to have freedom of speech and to be able to express one's opinion but some of you go too far...in my opinion!
