SOCCER: RMI aim to snap up Jones

Bootle 0, Leigh RMI 5 LEIGH RMI manager Steve Waywell will pull out all the stops today to make Steve Jones' move to Hilton Park permanent. The Chorley wide-man was the star of the show at Bootle last night as the Railwaymen had to show a competitive edge and roll their sleeves up to battle against a physical side on a bad pitch.

RMI lead 2-0 at the break after Brian Ross had lobbed the keeper and trialist Jones finished off a sweeping move.

Dave Rydings latched on to a loose ball from a corner early in the second half to make it three before Jones notched his second, sliding home after Brian Butler had rounded the keeper.

Steve Tobin completed the scoring when he met a right wing cross from Tony Black. RMI continue the build-up to the season when they travel to St Helens tomorrow.
