Head is proud

FORMER pupil of Burnley's Walshaw High School Maya Vaja, took time out from working as a freelance presenter with BBC Radio Lancashire to present the school's prizes.

Maya's success was just one of the achievements acknowledged at the Year 11 presentation evening.

Headteacher Mrs Lila Towers, said: "Walshaw's major over-arching aim is to raise achievement and improve performance, but it is also important to remain constant in our aim to educate the girls in our care to be confident, successful adults who will contribute to their community and wider society in the 21st century.

"So we must make sure that the education on offer is broader and richer than simply attaining grades in order to meet targets."

Mrs Towers highlighted the strong community links and spoke of her pride in the school to be awarded the Quality Standard for Careers Education and Guidance.

She singled out the commitment and hard work of staff, both teaching and non-teaching, as major factors in producing the high standards and creditable results.
