Teenager struck by bus near station

A female student escaped serious injury after being hit by a bus in Croydon town centre.

Croydon police said the Russian student was knocked down by the vehicle in George Street on Friday.

The road was temporarily closed while emergency workers removed the girl from the scene.

Traffic in the town centre built up in the streets surrounding the accident.

Police attended at 12.40pm after receiving reports of a woman hit by a bus near East Croydon station.

Officers were unable to confirm her exact age but said she was in her late teens.

She was taken by ambulance to St George's Hospital in Tooting where she was treated.

Her injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

George Street was reopened after police investigation work to discover the cause of the accident.
