RIGHT foot, left foot or with his head, it doesn’t matter how the goals come for Rovers loanee Marcus Antonsson.

The striker moved top of the club’s scoring charts with a brace at Bury on Saturday, taking his tally to six for the season.

His goals have been shared equally among his left foot, right foot and head, having been used as a central and wide striker so far in his Rovers career.

The Swede admits boss Tony Mowbray wasn’t aware which was his strongest foot when he arrived on loan from Leeds, with the striker going close to the perfect hat-trick, which would have been the first of his career, when he was denied just before the break by Bury keeper Leo Fasan.

His opener at Gigg Lane was a sweet left foot finish while his second was a back post header, both coming from Bradley Dack assists.

Antonsson said: “He (Mowbray) actually thought I was left footed because he said that in training early on after I came in.

“I have the same power in both legs but it’s a bit more feeling in my right maybe. I’m right footed but probably scored more with my left foot in my career but it doesn’t matter.

“It (the first goal) was perfect, that was exactly how I like it, I like to run in behind and he (Dack) found the perfect space.

“The header, it felt really good when I touched it and it went in and I was happy with that.

“I had a really good chance when we had a good attack when Benno (Elliott Bennett) put me in, the goalkeeper came out and I was waiting for it to come down as it bounced a bit high but I was happy with the two goals and a win and clean sheet was perfect.”

Rovers moved back into the League One top six with the victory, something they will be looking to build on at Oxford tonight.

Despite the weekend win Antonsson believes there are areas in which Rovers can improve but is confident their strength in depth can be a deciding factor over the course of the season.

He added: “I still think that we have things to work on, we missed a few passes in the build-up play but we can’t dig too much and look too much at the negatives. We need to get that feeling from winning.

“Three goals and a clean sheet, that’s what we need to take with us and move on.

“That’s one of our big strengths, we have a few injuries but still have a really strong bench.

“I’m sure we’re going to benefit from that as the season goes forward and it’s a strength for us as a team.”

And he says a winning run is now the target, adding: “We said that in the dressing room (before Bury), let’s start with a win and a good performance and go on a run.

“That’s what we’re aiming for and I really believe it’s going to come.

“There’s good quality in training, we need wins that can get the confidence and go on a run because I’m sure we have a good team.

“Individually we just need to put it together.”
