BURNLEY have completed the signing of forward Jonathan Walters on a two-year deal.

The 33-year-old has become the second new arrival at Turf Moor this week after left-back Charlie Taylor penned a four-year deal yesterday.

Although the fee is undisclosed it is understood the Clarets will pay Stoke City an initial £2million for Republic of Ireland international Walters, with a further £1million possible in add-ons.

Burnley's first bid for Walters was rejected by the Potters last week but the two clubs came to an agreement earlier this week, with Walters keen to move to Turf Moor.

He had just a year remaining on his contract with Stoke and made 23 appearances in the Premier League last season, but only 10 were starts.

Walters, who will wear number 19, will link up with Sean Dyche's squad on Monday when they fly out to Dublin for a training camp in Ireland, which ends with a friendly against Shamrock Rovers at the Tallaght Stadium on Friday (7pm).

The Clarets should prove a popular draw in the Emerald Isle with Walters swelling their Irish contingent to five.

He joins Kevin Long, Stephen Ward, Jeff Hendrick and Robbie Brady as full Republic of Ireland internationals in Dyche's squad.

The acquisition of Walters adds Premier League experience to the Burnley squad, with the Merseyside-born forward having made 226 top flight appearances for Stoke.

Earlier this week City boss Mark Hughes said he felt he couldn't stand in Walters' way of making the move to Turf Moor.

“It seems that maybe Jon could take the option of a move to Burnley," he said on Thursday.

“I haven’t had the opportunity to speak to him about it to be perfectly honest, but it is maybe something that he would like to make happen.

“But maybe at this stage of his career Jon feels that he would like more security, in terms of length of contract which we weren’t prepared to match.

“If he does leave then we will all look back on his time here with fond memories because he has been a huge part of what this club has achieved in the Premier League.”
