BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche praised the impact of substitutes Rouwen Hennings and fit-again midfielder Dean Marney.

Hennings shrugged off the disappointment of losing his place in the line-up in the absence of the injured Sam Vokes to get the Clarets back in the game after coming off the bench, while Marney – making his first appearance for nine months – set up the last gasp equaliser.

“It’s not an exact science but your job is to get a feel for what the game’s needed,” said Dyche.

“Jonah (David Jones) was doing fine, we just felt that changing the system a little bit would get Scotty (Arfield) and Deano running on a bit more with a bit more energy. And then Rouwen came on.

“We’ve had a feeling for him if something drops in the box. He’s been unfortunate, the keeper made a massive save from him last week. As soon it drops you know what he’s got, he turns and smashes it in, and you’re back in the game.

“That made them nervous, the whole stadium was nervous, we played on that and we kept going until eventually it cracked.”

Dyche said he had no doubt that the Clarets could get a second after pulling a goal back.

“Absolutely. The law of one more chance. You always get one more,” he said. “If you get that goal you get one more chance and we’ve taken the chance, albeit by a scratch of luck.

“But you can’t even argue that’s in balance to the decision in the first half because they would have been down to 10 men. I think we’d earned the right by that stage to get that scratch of luck.”

Dyche was disappointed, however, with the goals conceded.

“They’re soft goals,” he said. “But to be honest we’ve been outstanding from set pieces this season so I’m not going to overthink it on a one-off occasion. We’ve just got to make sure it is a one-off occasion.”

Dyche expects Vokes to be back in contention for Saturday’s derby with Preston North End at Turf Moor.
