CORRY Evans has urged Blackburn Rovers to carry on the good feeling that has spread throughout the club by making it back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Anticipation is building for new boss Paul Lambert’s first home game in charge of Rovers against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday after he kicked-off his reign with a rousing derby triumph.

The success at Preston North End has presented the Ewood Park outfit with the chance to address the issue that blighted their progress during Gary Bowyer’s final months in charge.

Rovers, while now unbeaten in four matches, have not recorded consecutive Championship victories since March.

And, ahead of the visit of the in-form Owls, midfield man Evans knows that has to change if they are to continue to cut the gap to the play-off places.

The Northern Ireland international, who was bowled over by the support Rovers received at Preston last weekend, said: “There is a good feeling throughout the club.

“That was always going to be the case when a new manager comes in as it gives everyone a lift, the fans included.

“I thought the fans were outstanding on Saturday. They really pushed us on and, even at the end, they stayed behind singing.

“It was a great feeling to have and hopefully we can continue this good feeling and get another win this week.

“We’ve had too many draws this season and in this league draws aren’t that much of a use. You need the three points.

“It would be nice to win this week and make it back-to-back victories for the first time this season.”

The win over Preston moved Rovers within eight points of the top six and within seven points of an eighth-placed Wednesday side which has lost just one of their last 13 games in all competitions.

Evans laid the credit for the Deepdale success at the door of the defence.

“I thought the back four and the goalkeeper were brilliant,” said the 25-year-old, whose shot against post led to Rovers opening the scoring.

“Preston threw everything at them but they headed everything and cleared everything. They really helped us to win.”

It was a win which ensured a new Rovers’ era under Lambert got off to a perfect start.

Evans, like many of his team-mates, admits that training under the former Aston Villa and Norwich City boss has gone up a notch.

“It’s been a lot more intense,” said Evans, who signed a new three-and-a-half year contract with Rovers last week.

“He’s come in, told the lads what he expects and what he wants.

“He wants us to play at a high tempo and with high intensity, and that’s the way it’s been in training.

“But it’s been enjoyable and the lads have really taken to it.”
