CHRIS Quigley led East Lancashire’s charge at the Stanley Park 10k in Blackpool.

The Trawden AC ace was the fastest MV45 and seventh overall in 37 minutes and 43 seconds.

There were also top-20 finishes for clubmates Dale Grimshaw, who was 13th in 38mins 34secs, Kevin Salter, who was 14th and the second-fastest MV40 in 38mins 41secs, and Graham Rose, who was 18th in 40mins 2secs.

Burnley AC’s Daniel Balshaw was 10th in 38mins 8secs followed by Clayton-le-Moors Harriers’ Matthew Duckworth in 19th in 40mins 6secs, and Barlick Fell Runners’ Derek Walkden in 20th in 40mins 12secs.

Blackburn Harriers’ hardworking Laura Hesketh was the fastest female and 23rd overall in 40mins 31secs.

And hot on her heels was Fraser Snape of Trawden AC in 40mins 33secs for 24th and Daniel Plant of Rossendale Harriers in 40mins 39secs for 26th.

Clayton-le-Moors Harriers’ Stephen Biscombe was the fastest MV60 and 31st overall in 42mins 10secs.

And there was also an age group prize for his clubmate Alan Clarkson, who was the fastest MV55 and 37th overall in 43mins 9secs, and Trawden AC duo John McDonald, who was the fastest MV60 and 39th overall in 43mins 28secs, and Jean Baistow, who was the fastest FV60 and 149th overall in 53mins 50secs.

Meanwhile, at the Anglesey Half Marathon, Jan Buckingham got the personal best time she was hoping for.

The Blackburn Harriers member passed the post in one hour 56mins 46secs.

She said: “It was a PB by eight minutes so I was pleased with that.

“It was a race of two halves, really sunny and still in the first half, then as we turned to come back, grey and a big head wind.”

Young Blackburn Harriers member, Saul Sharp, nine, ran in the one-mile junior race and, supported by his mum, Lorna, who set a PB in the main race, recorded an excellent time of 7mins 32secs.
