CHRIS Cook-Martin smashed the highest score of his run-laden career as Rawtenstall kept up their bid for a top six place in the Foster’s Lancashire League with the most resounding of wins over East Lancashire.

The former Oswaldtwistle Immanuel professional, who has finally got back to his best after what he has described as the toughest 18 months of his career, was breathtaking as he made a majestic 146 to lead Rocky to a stunning win.

Despite the second ball loss of professional Matthew Kleinveldt for a duck, East Lancashire recovered to post 241-9 from their 50 overs with John Turner hitting a fine 68.

Mini Bhada also batted well as he made 45 before departing to a juggling and tumbling Vinny Hanson catch, while Shahrukh Khan made a late 33 to push up the Blackburn side’s total.

While that seemed testing on the eve of the Worsley Cup final, Rocky were in no mood to mess around as Cook-Martin and Sam Kershaw (42) were out of the blocks in double quick time.

They scored at more than 10 an over for the first 10 overs with Kleinveldt’s first over being smashed for 23.

The carnage continued, even after the fall of Kershaw and Rocky strolled over the line inside 28 overs.

Cook-Martin was spectacular and faced just 86 balls with 20 fours and eight sixes but was robbed of a career-first 150 when he was trapped pillar and post leg before by Paul Kelly with just four runs needed.

At the top of the table Lowerhouse made it 14 league wins on the spin as they survived a wobble to beat Haslingden.

Graham Knowles was the leading light for Haslingden as he made 80 out of Haslingden’s 131 as the rest of the batsmen struggled against Cobue Pienaar 4-25) and Joey Hawke, who claimed three wickets.

It wasn’t plain sailing for The House, though, as Pienaar (33) and Ben Heap (25) both fell when set.

But in the end Charlie Cottam made 24 not out as they got over the line.

Ramsbottom maintained their chase for the title as they beat Burnley at Acre Bottom.

Daryn Smit was once again the star and hit a third half-century on the trot and claimed five wickets as they made light work of a full strength Worsley Cup finalists.

Ockert Erasmus had a good day as Accrington beat Todmorden at Centre Vale.

The South African passed 700 runs for the season and also went throught the 50-wicket barrier.

Sam Excell (61) and Ramiz Hussain (54) also shone in the seven-wicket win.

Enfield posted their record score in overs cricket as they took a liking to the Nelson attack at Dill Hall Lane.

Werner Coetsee (81) and Liam Bedford (64) were early into the runs before Adam Bracewell plundered 98 from 70 balls to push the score to 300-5.

Ryan Canning had picked up three of those wickets and then made 73 but Nelson were 243 all out thanks to five wickets from Coetsee and four from the spin of Simon O’Loughlin.

Rishton claimed a rare win as they turned in their best display of the season to beat Bacup.

Matt Hulett made 68 as Rishton were 216-9 before Ali Sartaj claimed four wickets to restrict Bacup to 163 all out with Peter Killelea top scoring with 54.

Colne were no match for in-form Church, who romped to a 10-wicket win. Usman Tariq claimed five wickets and Lloyd Aspin picked up three as Colne were 146 all out despite 48 from Tom Bradshaw.

Any thoughts about that being a test were soon dismissed by Church as Levi Wolfenden and Tariq blasted them over the line.

Wolfenden was 81 not out and tariq 82 not out as they claimed their second 10-wicket win in a fortnight.
