BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer declared himself satisfied after his side ran out 4-0 winners at AFC Telford United yesterday in their first friendly of the summer.

Second-half goals from transfer-listed striker Leon Best, Ruben Rochina (2) and youngster Jack O’Connell fired Rovers to an emphatic victory over their non-league opponents.

But what was equally pleasing to Bowyer, who fielded two entirely different teams in each half, was that no injuries were picked up ahead of the warm-weather training camp in Portugal.

He said: “The main objective was to give everybody 45 minutes.

“It’s a fantastic set-up here and it was good workout for us.

“It was important that we came through it unscathed and there no injuries so we were happy with that.

“You saw the quality in depth we have in the squad, with Besty and Ruben scoring, and the young lads got their opportunity too and put their case forward.

“It was just about getting our timings right and our fitness levels up. That’s been achieved and we’re delighted with that.”

Tommy Spurr missed out with a groin injury, Jason Lowe and Chris Brown did not travel after complaining of soreness, while Paul Robinson and Corry Evans were back at Brockhall doing fitness work.

New signing Alex Baptiste, who joined the club on a season-long from Bolton Wanderers on Friday night, and David Dunn and Markus Olsson, who penned new one-year contracts earlier in the day, also did not feature.

But they will all be on the plane bound for the Algarve tomorrow where Rovers will spend a week training before returning to England to prepare for their next friendly, away to Accrington Stanley on Wednesday, July 23 (7.45pm).

Rovers U21s, meanwhile, lost 2-1 at Clitheroe yesterday.

Always liked Rochina but where do we play him?

If and hope GB plays a 4-4-2 setup this season with emphasis on wing play, then one of the two central midfielders would have to give way, certainly can't be Cairney, to accommodate him.

For me, Rochina's best position is just behind the front strikers so may have to go 4-3-1-2 setup, however, this would put a heavy toll on our midfield, restricting both wingers and anchor Cairney to a deeper role.

Or play Rochina just behind one front striker but who to leave out?

IF he stays and hope he does, suppose it's a nice problem for GB to have, for me I'm going to have a lie down as just given myself a headache!!

I hope GB goes 4 4 2 as at long last we have a midfield that can supply quality balls to the front two with some blistering pace down the flanks. However one major failing of last season was a total lack of plan B. Far too often the opposition changed tactics and we couldn't respond and how many times did we lose a lead? To get out of the championship you need a settled, consistent midfield, two words you wouldn't associate with Ruben, but he can give us a plan B and I would like to see him stay but wouldn't expect his to be the first name on the starting 11 team sheet week in week out.

I have to say there is a really good feeling around. Rovers fans for the coming season (with the exception of DD of course), lots of anticipation and belief, we just cannot wait for the first game! What a contrast to 8 miles down the M65 and they have just been promoted. Their pages are drab with more dingle comments on here. But maybe reality is setting in and all those boasts of £120m to spend just hasnt materialised with the major strengthening seen in the directors car park. Yes the 10,000 loyal supporters will be watching the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and the Manchester clubs but you want your side to play well, hold their own and win their fair share but that's not going to happen with the dingle squad. One thing I learnt in my youth is you never see a poor bookie so one look at the prem relegation odds tells its own story. So, bring on a championship season where we believe we have a squad to really compete rather than look to defeat after defeat because you failed to strengthen your squad to have a chance of staying premier league rather than have zero belief and accept your going straight back down.

Not surprising, this lad actually wants to play football - a very refreshing and admirable outlook to have in this day and age!
If he feels he may become a bench-warmer with us then pretty sure he will want away.

Look, even if FFP comes into play, what does that actually mean for us?
Do we lose points? Do we forfeit games? Do we have to take embarrassing selfies?

NO. Considering we've offloaded a few big earners and got a few close to retirement, we can probably show that we're trying to combat the losses and avoid FFP anyway - but even if we can't, maybe Venkys have to stump up a few million quid to cover losses - or if we get promoted, donate it to charity. Considering that Venkys appear to have addressed the roots of mismanagement and are well on track to rebuilding the team, can probably see this as a fine for their past stupidity and move onwards.

I don't really see anything that interrupts "business as usual" anyway.

So, bring on a championship season where we believe we have a squad to really compete rather than look to defeat after defeat because you failed to strengthen your squad to have a chance of staying premier league rather than have zero belief and accept your going straight back down.[/p]
And I quote. You beat Telford 4-0 and you are literally draining your cocktail sausage in your pants. Three letters that should p1ss on your deluded meths induced enthusiasm..... FFP. I rest my case.[/p]
Hairboy

As opposed to the burnley players who are bring told to accept peanuts because your not that type of club. The lack of investment by the burnley board is bordering on criminal, at least give it a go in the premiership.

Even if ffp is followed up explain to us all properly how it's going to cripple us given the fact that 70% of the Championship is also affected besides us.
As we've almost signed all the players we need and can sign as many more as we want before a ban comes in how is a ban going to affect us ? You lot are desperate for ffp because that's all you have left.
Even after being demolished by Venkys we're still not a tin pot club like Burnley who are terrified of spending on proper quality players to make a fist of it in the Premier League. You and your directors deserve all you are going to get next season.. Good luck.
We all await your explanation reg ffp.

Why are you so worried about Burnley? You have just beat a non- league side after failing to score against them for an hour, and who were the two best players on the pitch? Two players who actually CAN'T WAIT to get out of Blackburn, Rochina and Best.

As for the Mighty Clarets, don't worry about us, we are signing players that are literally out of your league and every one would walk into the Blackburn first team - it is five weeks away from the start of the season and we have already bought FIVE players - Bids also in for Troy Deeney, Callum McManaman from Wigan and Dawson from WBA, so we will be fine.

Oh I am not my deluded chum, my feet are firmly on the ground, and I realise that we have already improved our paper thin squad with FIVE new players and are in the hunt for more - A centre back, a central midfielder and another winger and possibly another striker will see us OK.

Seriously, I would be more concerned about Blackburn's signings - Varney, The Lump and Baptiste? Wow, what ambition, how much money have YOU spent this summer?

How did Baptiste play? I assume he scored all four !

Now go away you silly little boy.
7 world cup final players will grace the playing surface at the Turf next season, SEVEN.
How many world cup finalists play for Brentford or Rotherham?
And how many of those will be wearing a Burnley kit?

Captain Birds Eye, Fcuk me, how desperate / deluded can a no-dad be?

You beat Telford 4-0 and you are literally draining your cocktail sausage in your pants.

Three letters that should p1ss on your deluded meths induced enthusiasm..... FFP.
I rest my case.

Where did I say that I was "so worried" about Burnley? There you go again making it all up.
As far as Deeney, McManaman and Dawson are concerned I wouldn't get too far ahead of myself if I was you.

Frees and loans like your signings. Oh I forgot about the 600 grand for the Bolton reserve.
Ffp ? ....we're still waiting.....
'FFP we're still waiting'

Yes, because you have to wait until January to get drybummed by this new rule that will stop you buying players.

Also you forgot about the £1.5 million we paid for Michael Kightly didn't you? Also I guess your post shows that you are feeling completely embarrassed that Blackburn have spent all your entire transfer budget on paying over-rated players off so that they leave your no-mark club?

Ouch.

Hmm - will you still think like that in January when you are mid-table?

Look at how you performed last season, you managed an embarrassing EIGHTH with your wage bill. You haven't strengthened aside from bringing in a guy you had on loan last year, a useless lump of a League One striker and an absolutely bobbins full back on loan from Bolton.

But yeah, you ALREADY have all the players you want, just highlights your lack of ambition.

One thing I learnt in my youth is you never see a poor bookie so one look at the prem relegation odds tells its own story. So, bring on a championship season where we believe we have a squad to really compete rather than look to defeat after defeat because you failed to strengthen your squad to have a chance of staying premier league rather than have zero belief and accept your going straight back down.[/p]
And I quote. "I have to say there is a really good feeling around". Captain Birds Eye, Fcuk me, how desperate / deluded can a no-dad be? You beat Telford 4-0 and you are literally draining your cocktail sausage in your pants. Three letters that should p1ss on your deluded meths induced enthusiasm..... FFP. I rest my case.[/p]
Good luck. We all await your explanation reg ffp.[/p]
Why are you so worried about Burnley? You have just beat a non- league side after failing to score against them for an hour, and who were the two best players on the pitch? Two players who actually CAN'T WAIT to get out of Blackburn, Rochina and Best. As for the Mighty Clarets, don't worry about us, we are signing players that are literally out of your league and every one would walk into the Blackburn first team - it is five weeks away from the start of the season and we have already bought FIVE players - Bids also in for Troy Deeney, Callum McManaman from Wigan and Dawson from WBA, so we will be fine.[/p]
Where did I say that I was "so worried" about Burnley? There you go again making it all up. As far as Deeney, McManaman and Dawson are concerned I wouldn't get too far ahead of myself if I was you.[/p]
Wow, what ambition, how much money have YOU spent this summer?[/p]
Frees and loans like your signings. Oh I forgot about the 600 grand for the Bolton reserve. Ffp ? ....we're still waiting.....[/p]
'FFP we're still waiting' Yes, because you have to wait until January to get drybummed by this new rule that will stop you buying players. Also you forgot about the £1.5 million we paid for Michael Kightly didn't you? Also I guess your post shows that you are feeling completely embarrassed that Blackburn have spent all your entire transfer budget on paying over-rated players off so that they leave your no-mark club? Ouch.[/p]
You just don't get it do you. We ALREADY have the players we want. A ban will mean nothing. Not embarrassed at all, We WANTED the parasites out of the club.[/p]
Chuck Norris' Roundhouse

I cannot believe Bowyer is satisfied with a 4-0 win against a bunch of bank clerks and waiters. It's gonna be a long season if that is our mindset.

Good game. Highlighted the fact that we have some up and comers with Green and O'Sullivan.
Ruben is untouchable. He MUST be part of the first team next year.

Even at Conference North level there is abundant quality. A team doesn't get into a league like that without a decent squad.

decent at Conf North level? Why don't we see if we can get some friendlies in at that football haven that is Stockport County then we can really assess our squad.
