Northern League: Darwen hope to hit back

Lancashire Telegraph: Darwen are bidding to bounce back from defeat to Netherfield last weekend Darwen are bidding to bounce back from defeat to Netherfield last weekend

DARWEN aim to bounce back from two defeats on the spin as they go into a home double header with a mission to stay in the scrap for the Chorley Building Society Northern League title.

Jordan Clarke’s Towers were sitting pretty at the league summit until they lost to Leyland and Netherfield in successive matches and are now in third spot.

But they get the perfect chance to head back up the table tomorrow when the side one place and five points above them Blackpool roll into Birch Hall for the game of the day.

Darwen then host Lancaster on Sunday for the second part of a big weekend.

Currently nothing separates the top teams as Leyland, Blackpool, the Towers and Fleetwood continue to battle it out for the top prize but things may change with some intriguing games.

Leaders Leyland host Netherfield tomorrow before Sunday’s tough trip to Barrow, while Blackpool follow their game at Darwen with a home clash with Lancashire Colts.

Fleetwood host Preston tomorrow before hosting Morecambe on Sunday, Chorley have no game tomorrow and their game against Preston on Sunday has been postponed.

In the other double headers, St Annes make two trips in two days to the Lake District as they play Kendal tomorrow before playing Netherfield on Sunday.

Kendal, following on from the St Annes game, entertain Penrith on Sunday.
