Burnley men won the AEGON National Club League Lancashire Division One title with a game to spare following a fantastic 8-4 win against Prestwich Men.

Burnley were expecting a touch match their nearest rivals with second-placed Prestwich needing to win to keep their own title hopes alive.

First up was the four singles matches with Ethan Herron, Steven Holt, Adam Walne and Jez Palmer in action for Burnley.

Herron started well against Prestwich’s talented Paul Jepson until he reached for a shot and pulled his back midway through the first set.

Jepson used all his experience and a fine display of shots to beat Herron 6-4, 6-3 and put Prestwich 1-0 up.

On the next court Adam Walne was in unstoppable form for Burnley and stormed through the first set 6-1.

However, Burnley’s injury jinx hit again when Walne was struck down at the start of the second set which he lost 6-4 to set up a match deciding championship tie-break.

In the first to 10 tie break, both players hit some great winners before Walne, who saved one match point, rattled of three points to win 11-9.

Steven Holt was involved in yet another classic, storming back from a set down to beat his opponent in another championship tie-break.

Holt was hitting the ball well in the first half but went down 6-1.

But he was nevery downhearted and got in to his stride and settle in to the match during the second second set which he won 6.3.

He then completed his comeback by winning the tie-break 10-2.

The last singles was Jez Palmer up against Sam Hedge who possessed a powerful forehand and serve.

Palmer opened the serving and was broken with ease in the first game but the then went on a 10 game winning run to put himself 6-1 4-0 ahead, Hedge then held serve and broke to trail 4-2, But Palmer broke again and held serve to win the match 6-1 6-2.

Burnley only needed to win one of the two last two doubles matches. While Herron and Palmer lost, the experience pair of Mick Harris and team captain Chris Rowell ran out 6-2, 6-0 winners to seal the title.
