BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche could emerge as a contender for the vacant ‘head coach’ post at West Bromwich Albion.

Directors at the Midlands club have been working on their shortlist this week to find Pepe Mel’s successor.

The Baggies are believed to have so far identified around six candidates and have already met with some.

Former Spurs manager Tim Sherwood is thought to be among them, although his appointment would not have universal support.

Dyche has attracted interest from West Brom with the potential to be added to the shortlist according to sources close to The Hawthorns.

It is understood no contact has been made with Burnley over Dyche’s position.

The 42-year-old’s reputation has been significantly enhanced through guiding Burnley back into the Premier League with automatic promotion on a shoestring budget, at the end of only his first full season in charge at Turf Moor.

However, he would command a compensation package which it is understood West Brom would be keen to avoid.

But it is questionable whether Dyche would even consider the Albion role given that he would face a major squad rebuild.

The Baggies are facing an overhaul with 11 players from last season, including five loanees, now off their books after winning their battle against the drop.

It is also likely he would come under more intense pressure with West Brom than he would at Turf Moor.

Dyche was the orchestrator as Burnley defied the odds to secure promotion as Championship runners-up to Leicester City.

The Clarets were expected to be facing a different challenge at the opposite end of the table as one of the pre-season favourites for relegation last year.

They go into this season with a similar underdog tag so the level of expectation on Dyche would be much less as Burnley boss, with West Brom bidding to fare better than last term’s 17th placed finish.
