Comment: Venky's open letter to Blackburn Rovers fans is a start

Lancashire Telegraph: The Rao brothers The Rao brothers

THERE is still a long way to go to in repairing the relationship between Blackburn Rovers’ owners and the club’s fan base.

But the decision of Venky’s to pen an open letter to fans is a start – and it comes at exactly the right time.

It would be kind to call the first two-and-a-half seasons of the Rao family’s ownership of Rovers as tumultuous.

But there is no question that the current campaign has brought an air of relative calm to Ewood Park.

There has been no boardroom infighting, no hiring and firing of managers, and the result has been a season of progress, particularly on the pitch.

So much so that Rovers’ supporters can look forward to the 2014-15 campaign with hope.

Now there is a train of thought that the Venky’s should have stayed quiet; that their silence has hardly hampered Gary Bowyer and the promising side he has built in the last 12 months.

But that would be to completely forgot that we, both fans and the Lancashire Telegraph, have been pleading with the Rao family to open the lines of communication.

And, with the release of the letter, they have done that.

The content will not satisfy all supporters, supporters who remain rightly concerned about the financial challenges that the club face.

But Rovers’ owners do say they are ‘deeply sorry’ for not being able to bring success to the club; they do admit they have learned valuable and costly lessons, and they do reaffirm that their commitment will not waiver.

These were messages that the fans needed to hear – and needed to hear directly from Venky’s.

Now one letter does not mean that all bridges have been rebuilt – far from it.

But it is a start, and an encouraging one.

They can shove their letter where the sun doesn't shine. I for one will NEVER forgive them, for the damage they have done to this once proud club. I'll tell you something for nothing; Blackburn Rovers will NEVER get back to the PL, whilst these jokers have anything to do with the club.

So they should p*ss off back to Pune, taking their money with them ? That done, when do you think we will be back in the Premier League ? Which planet are you on ?

they havent done a good job because they were badly advised by vultures ie anderson and kean. They are now trying to put things right but something that took a couple of years to dismantle cannot be fixed over night. without their backing the club would cease to exist. give your head a wobble and think about it...really!!

I do think the sentiment is genuine? They've eaten humble pie in making that statement when they could have just kept quiet as usual. They're still here backing the club ffp or not.

ps...... I'm not a fan of their's by a long way but that statement is perhaps a sign of better things to come....maybe.

It would appear that GB's trip to Pune was profitable. He seems to have told theVenky's just what the fans have wanted to hear. We all know what went wrong at the club, Kean Anderson etc. But at least we have survived them. The Venky's just need to make sure all the financial aspects of the club are sound and I trust GB to deliver the goods, ie, a return to the PL.
Having read all the comments on these pages I believe most of the fans are accepting of the apology delivered by the Venky's. Let's look forward to a prosperous new season.

Getting the club relegated from the prem? Is that "massive damage" in your eyes? We've been punching above our weight for some time now. This is the reality of it...

I agree, they are total jokers, imagine stumping up a couple of million quid a month to pay player wages for a club where there are still ungrateful fans like you. Lets just wait for that big Blackburn consortium to take over and spend the big money which will get a small club punching massively above its weight once more. If you can't handle relegation, go support one of the top 6.

We were equipped to avoid relegation with the figures of Allardyce and Williams at the helm.

S.I., I have to agree... The whole point of this letter is basically a hand in he air saying 'sorry, we fcuked up, we know this and we want to sort it out'! Give them a break, they are letting people run the club as they should...

When people go on about how they have 'single handedly ruined our club', I ask you, how? They came in to a club and got ill advised off people I could only regard as thieves, they trusted them and paid the price for it... They gave a manager the opportunity when we would have all sacked him, and then sacked 2 managers quickly after because most of us called for it... But how many decisions there did they make? How many were made by board members/dodgy agents/dodgy agents PR companies... The list then draws down to only a few mistakes they have made personally leading to US and THEM being shafted royally... So now they managed to get lucky and get the mix right and we have all seen the benefits, they turn to the fans and say phew, well we made a mess of that didn't we! But don't worry guys, were dedicated to fixing these mistakes and we will get you back to the PL... And what are the small minority doing now? Moan moan moan!

As MxMave said, if you can't accept relegation and all this cr@p we've been served up, where nothing will ever heal the wounds, well go support the top 6...

Put it this way they are taking a massive financial hit to continue to back the club if they pull out now we would go under unless BRAG win the Euromillions twice running. We have no divine right to be in the Premier League, I much prefer the Championship anyway, Venkys are accepting their mistakes and are slowly stabilising the club. I will be at Ewood next season regularly..Ive been just once since Sam was sacked...I haven't forgotten the past but lets move on and up.

mmm, no we weren't, we were on our last legs, Walkers Trust were not interested, they wanted out, Allardyce knew that and he wanted out, we had an ageing team on huge salaries and long contracts, and no money to replace them, we were sold to the only people who had any real interest.

Walkers Trust are to blame for this entire debacle.

Rant over, that's in the past and there is nothing we fans can do about it, apart from support the club and hope that Venky's can deliver.

10th in the Premier League was not so bad for a team on our last legs though was it? You are right, it is all in the past, but you could easily predict what was about to happen the day Allardyce got the boot. Some of us on this board screamed blue murder, but my people, you are forgiven. Up Rovers!

If getting relegated from the PL was the only damage they'd caused, then I could live with it. But it's not, is it? These charlatans have set this club back twenty years. They haven't got one major decision correct. We may NEVER fully recover from their calamitous reign. We are facing financial Armageddon, and only a fool will believe otherwise.

In my opinion the worst decision they made was not to sack Steve Kean. They didn't tolerate the dross that came after him which was commendable, they ceased to get involved, reigned back shebby, invested quite heavily in players like JR, Cairney and Dann and now are balancing the books after the aforementioned ageing overpaid squad were slowly released. Don't forget, players like Samba, Hoilett and Nelsen were driven out by Steve Kean at the time, Venky's did try to retain those players.

I believe today there is one division of teams between 1-9th in the premier league, then there's the 10th in the prem to 10th in the championship which is another set of equally matched teams.
Last time we were relegated there was quite a gulf between the leagues but nowadays its become more cut and dry as to who will finish in which block.
I'd actually rather watch us win at home and play for something rather than fight relegation year on year.
The last season at Ewood was one of the most entertaining for a long time and that is, whether you like it or not, in the main due to Venky's performance as club owners over the last year and a half.

You'll never forgive them for what this did to this proud club? Getting the club relegated from the prem? Is that "massive damage" in your eyes? We've been punching above our weight for some time now. This is the reality of it... I agree, they are total jokers, imagine stumping up a couple of million quid a month to pay player wages for a club where there are still ungrateful fans like you. Lets just wait for that big Blackburn consortium to take over and spend the big money which will get a small club punching massively above its weight once more. If you can't handle relegation, go support one of the top 6. RELEGATION HAPPENS TO ALL CLUBS AT SOME POINT OR ANOTHER. GET OVER IT. GET BEHIND YOUR TEAM OR GO SUPPORT SOMEONE ELSE
Blackburn Rovers 2 Armageddon Utd 0 (Rhodes and Gestade) Basser and Stone Island subbed early on...for Old Nick and Greenscreener Dangerous Dave sent off for consistently shouting `Venkys Out` at the Ref..
Cheers Frenchie, my old legs can't do the 90 minutes but I'm still a class act !
Go and have a pie before Dunny finishes them all off
And Smelly scores three without reply in the second leg......
