THE local midweek evening time trials have kicked off with the first one over 10 miles organised by the Rossendale Road Club at Hapton with an encouraging 22 riders competing.

Burnley’s Rob Dickinson of the Clitheroe Bike Club was fastest with a 25 minute 42 seconds ride with Sean Greenwood of the Rossendale club second in 25mins 53secs, Jay McCarthy of Clitheroe Bike Club third in 26mins 35secs and Rossendale’s Roy Flanagan fourth in 26mins 40secs.

Signing-on is at Network 65 just off the M65 at junction nine.

The weather was not good the following evening for the first North Lancs Road Club 10 mile at Edisford near Clitheroe where just 13 brave souls faced the timekeepers in wind and rain.

Fastest with a clear margin was Billington’s on-form Mark Haydock in 23mins 48secs followed by 2013 series winner Paul Taylor in 24mins 24secs, Rossendale’s James Tudor third in 25mins 28secs and David Haworth (NLRC) fourth in 27mins 5secs.

The bi-weekly Pendle Forest event over 10 miles had just 12 starters and was won by Andrew Wooler of the new Yorkshire based PH-MAS Cycling team in an excellent 23mins 9secs with PF’s Paul Braithwaite second in 25mins 10secs.

Martin Welsh of PF was third in 25mins 14secs and then two ladies with Amy Gornall of RST Racing Team fourth in 26mins 9secs and Lucy Horrocks of Team Hope close behind in 26mins 47secs.

Entries for the League of Veteran Road Cyclists road races which are part of the Percy Stallard series on the longer Bashall Eaves circuit on Sunday, June 8, should be with event organiser Dave Hargreaves of the North Lancs. Road Club by Monday.

The North West Regional Road Race 2014 Championships for all categories will be held on Saturday on the hilly circuit based on the HQ at Claughton Memorial Hall between Longridge and Garstang.

The senior event starts at 9.30 am with Raleigh pro Ian Wilkinson in the field while the junior race is a 2pm start.
