WHITE Coppice turned in an impressive display as they booked their spot in the second round of the Moore and Smalley Palace Shield’s Meyler Cup competition in some style on Sunday.

Kyle Dixon’s men eased through by 77 runs after they shone with the bat.

Wayne Dixon led the way for the locals with a blistering 49 that included five sixes and three fours, while Kyle Dixon made 35 at the top of the order. Ikram Wadiwala (20) also contributed valuable runs as did Tom Bates and Mark Fishwick, who both made 19, as White Coppice were bowled out for 233 in the 40th over.

New Longton began their reply brightly with Paul Fairhurst making 24 and when they reached 87-3 they seemed well on course to claim the win, especially with Ewan Maynard well set as he made 34.

But Jeff Smith got to work with the ball and claimed 3024 and there were two wickets each for Wayne Dixon and Harry Bates as New Longton were bowled out for 156.

Whittle and Clayton-le-Wood were also winners as they beat Penwortham seconds in the Loxham Cup.

Jon Huckfield and Chris McMahon both made brilliant centuries as they piled up 238-2 from 40 overs before the bowlers did their jobs and restricted Penwortham to 207-9.

The entire Premier Division programme was washed out on Saturday, while only two games survived in Division One with wins for New Longton and Torrisholme.

And there were only six games scattered around Division Two to Division Six as the rain proved to be the winner.
