West Lancs League: Green are pipped for promotion
6:00am Wednesday 14th May 2014 in Sport
HURST Green were pipped for promotion to Division One by free-scoring Hesketh Bank.
The Ribble Valley outfit have enjoyed a splendid campaign, eventually claiming third place, but Hesketh Bank will join Lostock St Gerards in the top flight next season.
Four goal John Stead led the charge for Hesketh in their penultimate fixture, as they netted six without reply against Ambleside United in the Lake District.
Hesketh wrap up their programme tonight (Tuesday) when they travel to meet Turton.
In the other games played in Division One, Dalton United crashed 4-1 at home Burscough Richmond - while Poulton were edged out 5-4 by Millom, who staged one of the comebacks of the season.
It had looked all over for the visitors as Adam Richardson's hat trick saw Poulton coast into a 4-1 lead with just quarter of an hour left on the clock.
But Carl Waters and Tyler Maxwell-Kelly sparked their great escape before a late double from Kevin Leadbetter saw him complete his own hat trick as the plucky Cumbrians posted an unlikely victory.
Wyre Villa crashed 4-2 at home to Hawcoat Park, with Carl Pearson on the mark twice for the visitors.
Mill St Peters are safe from the drop after last week's win at Dalton United with James Grubb finding the target.
In the Premier Dvision, Vickerstown saved themselves with a final day victory Thornton Cleveleys, sending Fulwood Amateurs down with Tempest.
Eagley claimed fourth spot with an impressive 4-2 win at Slyne with Hest.
