FORMER Burnley favourite Graham Alexander could be in the unusual position of seeing all of his old clubs promoted this season, as well as the side he now manages.

Alexander won promotion to the Premier League in 2008/09 via the play-offs with the Clarets, who sealed their return automatically last month.

Preston North End, with who he ended his playing career after a second spell at Deepdale, have already secured their play-off place for a chance to return to the Championship.

Alexander’s first club, Scunthorpe United, are playing for the League Two title after securing automatic promotion last weekend, despite defeat to Exeter City ending the record-breaking run of Russ Wilcox, the former Burnley number two.

Wilcox, who was assistant to Brian Laws at Turf Moor, had previously been undefeated in his 28 games at the helm.

Luton complete the set of the clubs Alexander played for with their return to the Football League complete, five years after a 30-point deduction for insolvency problems consigned them to the Conference.

Alexander, who has moved into management with Fleetwood Town, is hoping to add the Cod Army to the promotion portfolio.

The former Scotland international’s side are assured of a League Two play-off place.
