Blackburn Rovers striker Rudy Gestede named Championship player of the month

Lancashire Telegraph: Blackburn Rovers striker Rudy Gestede named Championship player of the month Blackburn Rovers striker Rudy Gestede named Championship player of the month

BLACKBURN Rovers striker Rudy Gestede has been named the Championship player of the month.

Gestede, who scored six goals in six starts in April, saw off competition from Burnley captain and centre-back Jason Shackell, Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Adam Bogdan and Millwall midfielder Nicky Bailey to net the prize.

Rovers boss Gary Bowyer said: “Rudy has been a fantastic signing for us.

“As a person, he is top class. He has played a massive part for the team with some very impressive performances. His goals have been the icing on the cake.

“He works hard to improve his game and he is only going to get better.”

Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman, who was part of the judging panel, said: “Rudy has finished the season strongly and scored plenty of goals.

“Rudy’s form and a developing partnership with the prolific Jordan Rhodes have put smiles back on the faces of the Rovers fans.”

Young Rovers midfielder Josh Morris, who is on loan at play-off bound Fleetwood Town, has been named the League Two player of the month.

Goodman said:  “Morris has had a fantastic month for Fleetwood as the team went unbeaten in April.

“Josh’s winning goals against Cheltenham and Wycombe secured a play-off spot that gives Fleetwood a real chance of progressing to the next level.”

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has been named as the Championship manager of the month.

Excellent News and well deserved, Rudy has brought a different dimension to Rovers attack, hopefully we can mix it up now and give teams much more to worry about next season.

Pity they couldn't acknowledge GB with a least a nomination for Manager of the Month given the form Rovers have been in.

Interesting that Rudy has been a more prolific goalscorer at Rovers than he was at Cardiff, he must be well chuffed with his move.

Well deserved for the player, GB deserves a lot of credit for unearthing him, and several others, then bringing them on to the standards they are achieving now.

I hear Rovers are around 100 to 1 to get into the playoffs, apart from the lottery I don't gamble but I might just drop a tenner on them tomorrow.

Funny old game this football malarkey :-)

I'd say financial suicide is better described as handing out 4 year £35,000 a week contracts to the likes of Dickson Etuhu, who will gladly skim an incredible £7.28million out of the Blackburn Rovers threadbare coffers over the course of his contract, to put that into real terms, that's your entire parachute payment for next season gone. And then there's all the other dollopers, Leon Best who won't play for you, Goodwillie who's not fit for League One, DJ Campbell who'd rather bet against you (allegedly), etc.

And if that's not enough you have to give away season tickets to entice people to watch the tripe served up at Ewood Park these days, because if you charged any more for tickets no one would turn up.

It all adds up to one big mess. FFP will be the end of Blackburn Rovers at Championship level. You heard it here first.

Personally I can't see Burnley 'taking a risk' and spending the money again with the inevitable consequences. You need PL quality players who want PL quality wages but the board won't be going there.
Again the "well run club" rubbish will be rolled out again and the fans will fall for it, whilst the directors with short arms keep their money in their pockets, as they've always done. Dyche will get fed up, like Coyle did and will be off. You need to change and show some ambition. It's all so predictable.

I wouldn't worry too much about Burnley's prospects, especially when you've got this sh!tstorm heading your way.... and now that the punishments to PSG and Man City are being upheld those feeble hopes of a "watering-down" by certain deluded no-dads have now been destroyed.

Financial Fair Play - Sanctions for clubs in the Championship 2014/15:

Clubs that fail to comply with the Financial Fair Play regulations will be subject to a transfer embargo. This embargo will come in to force ahead of the subsequent transfer window beginning on January 1, 2015.

The transfer embargo WILL REMAIN IN PLACE until the club is able to lodge financial information that demonstrates that it meets the Financial Fair Play regulations.

Good luck with that.

It's interesting how some players just fit in with some clubs and do well, and some let it go to their heads move on and are never heard of again, some of us may remember Howard Kendal signing Andy Crawford from Derby he went on to have a good goal scoring season with us got big headed refused to report back for pre-season training forced a move away and disappeared back into oblivion.
So maybe Rudy you have found your footballing niche and good luck to you well played.

I see Captain Contradiction is at it again! Don't worry too much about Burnley's prospects? Firstly, nobody is worried, they are merely making an observation. Secondly, it's a bit rich for you, of all people, to tell others to concentrate on their own team.

I thought after yesterday's balls-up - where you forgot to switch username before posting some comical rant about Burnley's Premier League quality players (I thought we were supposed to be providing the laughs?) - surely you'd keep your head down for a few days. Everything you write on here is ridiculous but you normally leave the blatant nonsense for one of your other aliases.

Well said. I was watching the Sunderland-Cardiff game, in Cardiff, on Sunday and I got talking to quite a few of their fans. Most of them are resigned to the 'fact' that they'll be back in the Championship next season and the overall concensus was that letting Conway and Gestede leave will come back to bite them on the ar$e. Look at Diego Forlán at United, not even Ferguson could get the best out of him but he went on to be one of the best strikers in the World. (I'm not saying they're in the same league, just validating what you're saying.)

One Cardiff lad, who I assume had sunk a few too many pints of Brains, started harping on about how cr@p Gestede is, but he was soon put in his place by a fellow Bluebird with a well-aimed packet of pork scratchings to the lug hole. Actually, it's a tidy city for a good night out and a bit of banter.
