Accrington Stanley seal Football League survival

ACCRINGTON Stanley confirmed their Football League survival after a 2-1 victory at Oxford United this afternoon.

The Reds sat rock bottom of the table after only two points from their first 10 matches, but have now sealed their place in League Two next season with a game to spare.

Kayode Odejayi fired Stanley in front in the 18th minute at the Kassam Stadium before James Gray doubled the advantage nine minutes after half time.

Australian Ryan Williams - brother of former Burnley duo Rhys and Aryn Williams - pulled a goal back for the home side in the 67th minute.

But Accrington had already done enough to secure their first ever victory over Oxford, and now sit 17th in the table ahead of their final game of the season at home to Wimbledon next weekend.

Stanley: Marcus Bettinell, Nicky Hunt, Dean Winnard, Tom Aldred, Adam Buxton, Will Hatfield, Luke Joyce, Josh Windass (Peter Murphy 80), Piero Mingoia, Kayode Odejayi, James Gray (Shay McCartan 85). Subs not used: Andrew Dawber, Rob Atkinson, Michael Liddle, Kal Naismith, Danny Webber.

Absolutely brilliant!!! So glad all went well in the end. If it hadn't been for the awful start you would have been in the play-off mix. Build on this for next season and I'll get on myself more (when Burnley are away of course).
