THERE was little doubt as to who were the winners of the North Lancs Road Club 10 mile time trials on Saturday with Joanna Rowsell easily taking the ladies trophy and Mark Holton a clear winner in the men’s event.

London Olympic Gold Medallist and reigning World Pursuit Champion Rowsell, riding for the Wiggle Honda sponsored team, clocked a ladies course record of 21 minutes 19 seconds. Holton riding for Drag2Zero returned to the finish in 20mins 32secs.

Of our East Lancs riders Ian Cox of Darwen took third with a ride of 21mins 9secs while Duncan Park (22mins 4secs and eighth) and Mark Haydock (22mins 7secs and ninth) were the only other East Lancashire riders in the top 10.

Sue Cheetham of Blackburn was third lady in 26mins 10secs.

Peter Greenwood of Burnley and riding this year for the Team Swift squad has set his sights on the National RTTC Time Trials Series in 2014.

In the third counter near Buxton on Good Friday he was winner of the Target Time category, which gives allowances for age.

A set of traffic signals affected the planned mid week 25 mile Veteran’s event at Cockerham resulting in a 12 mile event in lieu.

Fastest was Huddersfield’s Nigel Haigh in 25 minutes 41 seconds with Ian Cox second in 27mins 4secs, Brian Fogarty third in 27mins 30secs and Austin Foy sixth in 29mins 11secs to give the NLRC the Team award.

The Lakes and Lancs Sporting Courses series (SPOCO) had its 10th round on Sunday with a 21.6 mile circuit north of Lancaster with Greenwood second , Haydock fourth and Park sixth.

The next SPOCO round is the Wigan Wheelers 30 mile on Sunday morning near Garstang.
