HASLINGDEN’S Tom Carne picked up a sixth-placed finish on his debut in the Tristar Triple Challenge.

The 20-year-old has made the step up from the British Motostar Championship this year after winning the Triumph Young Guns scholarship scheme, and showed promising signs during the opening weekend of the season at Brands Hatch.

Carne qualified in 10th but then missed the formation lap and had to start the race at the back of the grid. But he was able to progress through the field to finish a respectable 10th in the first race and was then leading the second race, before monsoon conditions saw him crash out as he attempted to lap a backmarker.

Carne’s fastest lap was enough to put him on pole position for the third and final race.

He slipped back to sixth after running wide, but still earned 10 points to leave him 11th in the championship.
