TALENTED spinner Alex Hartley made a fine start to the new season as she bowled Clitheroe seconds to an opening day win.

Left-armer Hartley got into the groove from the off and claimed 5-22 as the Chatburn Road outfit beat Salesbury.

Charlie Dewhurst made 83 as Clitheroe piled up 183-7 before Hartley bowled the Red Caps out for 82.

Stacksteads’ John Hindle enjoyed the honour of making the league’s first century of the new season.

He reached an unbeaten 169 out of 313-5 as the visitors outscored hosts Padiham by 71 runs despite the best efforts of Peter Shirtcliffe, who hit 99.

Ryan McDonald hit 95 and then claimed five wickets as Brooksbottom seconds beat Cherry Tree while Holden Road was friendly to the bowlers as Chris Lemon claimed 6-10 for Barnoldswick as Burnley Belvedere were all out for 81.

However, Barlick slipped to 79 all out with Danny Jenkins picking up 5-29.
