HASLINGDEN rider Tom Carne says he will aim to win the Tristar Triple Challenge this year after making the step up from the British Motostar Championship.

Carne was crowned champion of the 125GP class in the Motostar Championship and then earned his place in the Triple Challenge after being selected as the winner of the Triumph Young Guns scholarship scheme.

The 20-year-old starts his season at Brands Hatch this weekend and is relishing the prospect of a series where everyone starts equal.

“All the bikes are the same so it’s all about the best rider, and I can’t wait to start the season,” Carne said.

“It’s the first year for me, so it will be about gaining experience.

“But I’m coming into it after winning the 125 championship so I’ve got to go and try to win it, there’s no point aiming for any less. I’m hoping that I can get on the podium straight away.

Carne, left, will receive financial assistance throughout the year as a result of winning the Triumph Young Guns scheme.
