GOLDEN girl Niamh Robinson produced a sensational performance, landing a clutch of medals at the Derventio Excel Swimming Festival at Sheffield's Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.

The talented 14-year-old, who swims for Accrington-based Pioneer 79 Swimming Club, landed three gold medals in the 50 metres Breaststroke and 100 and 200 metres Backstroke and an Isle of man Commonwealth Games Consideration time in the 50 metres and 100 metres Breaststroke.

Niamh also chipped in with ten Lancashire Qualifying times, seven regional qualifying times and four National Qualifying times as well as landing two bronze medals in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke.

Joseph Murray, 14, also chalked up personal best times in the 50 metres, 100 metres, and 200 metres Breaststroke, as well as gaining Lancashire County qualifying times and Regional qualifying times in the 100 metres and 200 metres Breaststroke.

Seven swimmers from Pioneer 79 were in action, including Matthew Clarkson, 19, achieving Regional qualifying times in the 100 metres and 200 metres Breaststroke.

Pioneer 79 coach Mike Wilson said: "The results achieved by a small contingent of Pioneer 79 swimmers,shows their ability to compete at such a high level of competition.

"All the swimmers gained valuable experience from swimming at such a competitive Level One meet, with some fantastic performances and new personal best times being set."

Another rising star in the pool is 12-year-old Abigail Murray, who comfortably achieved Lancashire County qualifying times in the 50 metres Freestyle, 50 metres and 200 metres Breaststroke.

Eleanor Collin, 13, achieved LQT in nine events and a RQT in the 100 metres backstroke.

Alice Harding, 14, also landed three Lancashire Qualifying times, and a Regional Qualifying time in the 200 Metres Individual Medley.

There was also fine performances from Meghann Leaver, who achieved a high number of personal bests.
