THE final matches in the Tuesday and Thursday winter bowling league held at East Lancs bowling Club have been completed.
The Tuesday league was won by The Clarets who pipped Green Park to the title while the Thursday league saw Witton crowned champions with Roe Lee Park in second place.
East Lancs Bowls secretary, Janet Pomfret, said that once again the winter leagues had been a resounding success with matches played in a friendly spirit.
She said: “Most Tuesdays and Thursdays since November had been blessed with exceptionally kind weather.
“Had matches been played on Mondays and Wednesdays instead there would have been serious fixture disruption!”
Thoughts at East Lancs are now turning to the summer bowling season with a curtain raising open singles competition being held on Saturday April 5. This will be followed, on Thursday 12 June, by an open round robin doubles tournament kindly sponsored by Mr M Booth, as part of the East Lancs 150th anniversary celebrations.
