1:28pm Tuesday 1st April 2014 in Sport
THE frantic chase for the East Lancashire League Division One title is a three horse one now – and the leading pack are all in action tomorrow.
Champions Rimington will be favourites when they travel to bottom-of-the-table Colne United – who have won just once this term – after Terry Braithwaite’s men were held 2-2 at Mill Hill last weekend.
The Ivy are out in front by a point on both Burnley Athletic and Rimington, and they could prove too strong for strugglers Langho when the two sides meet, also tomorrow, at the Rydings.
Burnley Athletic will also be eyeing a maximum points haul when they travel to Worsthorne, who suffered a crushing 7-0 defeat at Calder Vale.
However, Ivy remain favourites to win as they have to games in hand on their rivals. In the Second Division, Peel Park defeated bottom club Borrowdale United 3-1, while Canberra FC brushed Waddington aside by the same scoreline.
There was goals galore in the Reserve Division. Read United set the ball rolling thumping Stacksteads 6-0, while second placed Whinney Hill edged a 4-3 thriller against bottom club Barrowford Celtic.
Peel Park cruised to a 4-0 victory at Burnley Belvedere while second bottom Waddington celebrated a shock 5-4 win over Oswaldtwistle St Mary's.
Enfield also hit five, overwhelming Rimington 5-3.
In the Reserve Cup semi-final, Mill Hill Feniscowles and Pleasington 2-1 and in the Bob Little Cup first round, Whinney Hill claimed a 1-0 win over Burnley Belvedere.
