IAN Wilkinson secured fourth place in the Evesham Vale Road Race over the weekend as his Team Raleigh squad secured the top four places in what was a dominant display.

Barnoldswick’s Wilkinson was part of a six-man Raleigh squad which took to the startline in the 100km race which took in four and a half laps of an undulating circuit.

Raleigh were using the race as their final warm-up event before they head to the Tour du Normandie in France which takes place from March 24-30.

Wilkinson, already a winner this season after claiming victory in the Eddie Soens Memorial Race, was active throughout the race and was part of an initial brekaway.

When that was reeled in Barker and another Raleigh rider Liam Stones were able to stay clear in a seven-man break which formed on the penaultimate lap.

Wilkinson was then able to bridge across, along with team-mate George Atkins, as 14 riders made the catch on the final lap.

But Barker had no interest in waiting for the sprint and attacked alone to claim a solo victory.

He was followed in second spot by Stones with Atkins third with Wilkinson fourth.

Kendal-based Wheelbase Altura also had a top 10 finisher in the shape of Sam Boast who was seventh while Matthew Clarke was 15th.

Wilkinson is part of Raleigh’s six man squad for the French stage race next week where he was a stage winner in 2012.
