The Lancashire Wolverines are gearing up for their second season in the British American Football Association National Leagues Premiership – the elite league for the sport in the UK.

The team has held successful rookie camps during the winter, recruiting players from around the county, ahead of the opening day match against the Tamworth Phoenix at Blackburn Rugby club on April 20.

With just one pre-season game left to go before that – away at the Shropshire Revolution this Sunday – the Wolverines are itching to get back to competitive games and they’ll be looking to improve on their impressive Premiership debut season last year.

For the first time ever the Wolverines will also be hosting a pre-season residential training weekend in the Lake District where the players will be put through their paces both mentally and physically by the team’s coaches.

“Preparations for 2014 are going really well,” said Head Coach Simon Purcell. “We have recruited some excellent new players via our rookie camps and our junior team and we are excited for the season opener in April.”

The junior team is also preparing for the new season, with their opening game on the May 4 away to the Burnley Tornados. The team is still recruiting players aged between 16 and 19 as they look to head to their third straight National Championship game.
