MATCH day ticket £32, mandatory transport to and from the ground £6.50, witnessing Burnley FC’s first victory of note against Blackburn Rovers in near on 35 years – priceless!

Yet, for the opening 70 minutes of this game you just couldn’t see where this win was coming from.

Uncharacteristically, Burnley misplaced far too many passes and hoofed the ball skywards, resulting in putting themselves under additional pressure.

That led to conceding the first goal from a Jordan Rhodes shot that they would normally close down far more efficiently.

That malaise surfaced again when a David Jones mistake let in Rovers goalscorer Rhodes, who could only hit a post. That incident, and the double substitution that introduced Ross Wallace and Ashley Barnes, proved the turning point.

Two quick goals from Blackburn’s nemesis Jason Shackell and hotshot Danny Ings went on to seal what were almost three quarter of the contest looked an unlikely outcome.

But we had won, and the result was everything. For the last five years Burnley had gradually closed the gap between themselves and our arch rivals. That gap is no longer there!

Before the game I felt that there was ‘something in the air’ at this one and it could at last be our day.

The 4,500 Clarets must have thought the same as it transpired that shedloads of lucky charms had been dusted down with all sorts of superstitions being adhered to.

The parties went on long into the night and local hospital staff have already been put on standby for a baby boom mid-November!

We will be popping down to ‘Brum’ tomorrow to take on a Birmingham City side that has been rocked by the revelation that their owner Carson Yeung has been found guilty by a Hong Kong court of money laundering vast amounts.

Reports say that could total £55m.

Compare that to the steady ship being steered by our co-chairmen John Banaszkiewicz (pictured) and Mike Garlick, and I know for sure which I would rather have! We must look to add to their misery by showing no sentiment at all. Any team would do the same.
