PLAYER RATINGS: Barnsley v Blackburn Rovers

Lancashire Telegraph: Tom Cairney Tom Cairney

BLACKBURN Rovers reporter Paul Wheelock gives his ratings for last night's 2-2 draw at Barnsley.

Do you agree with his ratings? Have your say using the comment facility below.

Paul Wheelock's ratings:

Paul Robinson 7: Could do nothing to prevent Barnsley’s goals and made two excellent saves either side of half time.

Adam Henley 6: Caused the Tykes plenty of problems with his rapid breaks from right back in the first half.

Grant Hanley 7: Stand-in skipper was furious at the decision to award Barnsley the penalty from which they equalised.

Matt Kilgallon 7: The recalled centre back, along with the rest of the Rovers defence, came under serious second-half pressure.

Tommy Spurr 6: Like Henley, got in behind the Tykes back line before the break before being put on the back foot after it.

Lee Williamson 6: Became the second Rovers player in successive matches to be stretchered off after Ben Marshall.

Jason Lowe 6: Was guilty of some misplaced passes in both halves. The only Rovers player to be booked.

Tom Cairney 8: Brought Rovers back into the match with a sublime equaliser that will live long in the memory.

David Dunn 8: It was his brilliant run and perfect pass that led to Rudy Gestede putting Rovers in front.

Rudy Gestede 7: Missed a good headed opportunity before making amends with a cool side-footed finish.

Jordan Rhodes 6: Forced the excellent Luke Steele into a first-half save before firing into the side-netting after the break.

Strange formation last night.
4-3-1-2

It gave us no width whatsoever, which is fine as long as we play a passing/creative movement game. The problem lay in the second half when Bowyer had chance to convince the team a one goal lead WOULD be enough this week for a change. The wingbacks clearly were told to hold the line and not run the flanks which meant we had absolutely nobody running with the ball in the second half. Bowyers sub was to swap Dunny (the best player on the pitch as per normal) for Taylor, which was essentially suicide. That would be the perfect opportunity to deploy Rochina, the last 20 mins as Dunny tires. Yet here we are with a now thin squad of players of this level. I don't understand....

I don't understand this situation with Dunn is he fit or not,if he is fit can he last ninty minutes which is what you would expect, what other team employs a player who when he does play never lasts more than half a game on a good day, regarding the side they seem incapable of sustaining a full ninty minutes effort either good first half and bad the second or visa-versa,when Hughes was here we were capable providing a form of Power Play for the full match

Yes, whilst Tugay sat on the bench.

The pitch was rubbish last night and took it's toll on Dunny who's barley played recently. Taking him off and keeping him fit for Saturday was not a bad idea. We were winning at the time and Taylor's energy was welcomed. The problem continued though as we really needed to switch to 442 and load the box to take the pressure off and give the heavy legs a break. Playing wrong footed lads on the flanks again made this impossible and I guess the full backs had no option but to sit in as they had no cover when they got forward. MxMave got it right with comments re Rochina, but the pitch may have done him too. If the Barnsley players weren't going to get us, aided handsomely by the ref, then the pitch was and I guess that's what. did Williamson. On the bright side GB has now had his hand forced to not play JL and Willow next to each other, just hope Evans can get some game time on Saturday and we can play a midfield 3 with Cairney central not on the f'ing right wing.
