BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer will fly back to India next month to meet with owners Venky’s and finalise the club’s plans for the January transfer window.

Bowyer has already made it clear that he must trim Rovers’ wage bill when the window opens in nine days’ time.

But he has also drawn up a list of potential targets he would like to bring to Ewood Park – with on-loan star Tom Cairney right at the top of it.

Bowyer did not reveal the exact date of the talks with Venky’s.

But he hopes the fact that he is publicising the trip now will quash any speculation when they actually take place.

The last time Bowyer travelled to India – after the 3-0 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion in November – there were reports linking Ian Holloway with his job.

Those reports were swiftly denied and since then Bowyer has guided Rovers within four points of the play-off places going into the Boxing Day home clash with struggling Sheffield Wednesday.

“There will be a time in January when I’ll fly out to India,” revealed Bowyer, whose in-form side are on a three-game unbeaten run.

“That meeting has already been arranged and the topic of conversation will be the transfer window.

“The trips are always planned and this one was something we put in the diary the last time we went out there when there were allegations that something else was going on.

“This should stop people from panicking.”

Bowyer has already been told by Venky’s that he does not have to sell 13-goal top scorer Jordan Rhodes next month.

Bowyer said: “The owners have got no intention of selling Jordan Rhodes.

“That said Tottenham sold Gareth Bale for £80m and Manchester United sold Cristiano Ronaldo so everybody has a price.

“So while you can never say never, it would take an astronomical bid.”

Bowyer said yesterday that Rovers are continuing to ‘work very hard’ to secure Cairney on a permanent deal.

The final game of the midfielder’s six-month loan spell from Hull City is scheduled to be the New Year’s Day trip to Leeds United.

Hull boss Steve Bruce revealed on Friday that Rovers have had an undisclosed bid for Cairney rejected.

But Bruce is willing to sell the 23-year-old at the right price.

Fans’ favourite Cairney, who is out of contract in the summer, told the Lancashire Telegraph last week that he would be happy to remain at Rovers.

Goalkeeper Paul Robinson, meanwhile, took another step on his road to recovery yesterday when he played 45 minutes of a behind-closed-doors friendly with Accrington Stanley at Brockhall.

The Rovers players will train this morning before having Christmas Day off.
