Blackburn Hawks raring to go after free weekend
WE didn’t have a fixture last weekend and on the one hand it has been good to recover from the bumps and bruises of the first four games.
But on the other we would have wanted to keep the momentum of our 100 per cent start going.
There have been times in previous seasons when we’ve had a break and haven’t come back as strong.
But having such a good start to the season should change all that.
It’s a big weekend with two tough away games against Sheffield Spartans and Billingham Stars, and a lot of travelling involved, so it’s going to be a test to keep our winning run going.
But our 100 per cent record so far has given us extra confidence.
I don’t think we’ve ever had a start as good as this – and hopefully this time next week we can say the break did us good.
In our eyes those first four games are the pre-season we didn’t have and now we are looking to push on from here and get better.
Sheffield Spartans will be after a bit of revenge after we beat them 6-0 at home the other weekend.
They will be a different prospect now after signing Stuart Brittle – the other brother of our Brittle duo Danny and Adam.
It was a feisty affair at the Arena but I don’t expect an ‘afters’ on the back of that.
A line is drawn under it at the end of the game. They’ll just be smarting from the result On Sunday we have Billingham Stars away in the cup, who will also feel they have a score to settle.
We showed our character in the initial tie against them at home, and we will need to draw on those resources again.
We trained well last Thursday night, on the night that mine and Rick Ravey’s national television appearance went to air.
It was back in June when we filmed ‘Mayhem & Mishaps: Britain Caught on Camera’ with presenter Mark Chapman for BBC One.
We had to walk on the ice in every day trainers and highlight the risks.
As you can imagine the banter was flying around about the programme, but it was good to get wider exposure for the club.
It’s a shame we couldn’t wear the team shirt, but with all the different sponsors we have on it we weren’t allowed. But it was good to film it in the arena and get the Hawks’ name out there that way.
Just as well it was done in the off season too, because I hurt myself in one of the falls.
I think I’ll stick to skates!
