On arrival, children got to meet Santa and wander around the different stalls on show, which included a cake sale, a recruitment stand and a raffle.

Attendees could buy gifts, including helmets, teddy bears and toy fire engines, from a shop on site.

Firefighters showed children the different fire equipment they use and let some of them sit in a real fire engine.

Firefighter Lucy Dutton, who was the chief organiser of the event, said: "It was brilliant.

"We got everybody involved from the fire station and the children absolutely loved it."

Firefighter James Milward, who was one of the event's organisers, said: "Despite the short notice the event went really well and better than we thought it would.

"We hope to do something similar in the summer of next year."

Prizes were donated by local businesses for the station's cake sale and the raffle.

The crew raised £1,033 for the firefighters charity.
