CHILDREN from East Lancashire primary schools will be hitting the high notes at Blackburn Cathedral this Saturday as they take part in the annual Christmas Spectacular concert.

Three school choirs have been invited to take part in this year’s event which features music by American composers.

Samuel Hudson, the cathedral’s director of music, said this week: “This concert is basically a sell-out every year so if you haven’t got your tickets yet you had better hurry. There will be a programme of exciting Christmas music as well as all the old favourites which the audience can sing along to.”

The voices of children from Meadowhead Primary in Blackburn, Salesbury Primary and the choir from Trinity Primary, Buckshaw Village, Chorley, will be added to the choirs of Blackburn Cathedral to make a magical musical sound.

The main offering will be the UK premier of James Bassi’s Carol Symphony as well as other compositions by other Americans including Morten Lauridsen, Stephen Paulus. and Mack Wilberg. The Northern Chamber Orchestra will be conducted by Mr Hudson.

Tickets from £5 are available at www.blackburncathedral.com or King George’s Hall box office in person on 0844 847 1664.
