A MAN is set to have a trial of issue to determine the amount of money he stole from a shoe repair business.

Burnley Crown Court heard how Roger Allen Brakewell, 41, admitted to a charge of theft from an employer in relation to Timpsons Ltd in Accrington.

That offence took place between February 1, 2016, and April 2, 2016.

The prosecution allege Brakewell stole £3,920 but defence barrister Julian Goode said his client estimated the figure was closer to £1,200.

Sentencing has been adjourned to January 12 at Burnley Crown Court when there will be a trial of issue.

At that hearing he will also be sentenced in relation to a similar offence which was sent to Burnley Crown Crown Court by South Sefton magistrates.

Prosecuting, Emma Kehoe said: “The defendant left Timpsons after stealing from them and then went to work for another shoe mending company and stole from them as well.”

Brakewell was released on unconditional bail.

Judge Beverley Lunt said: “You must come back to this court for a trial of issue on January 12. I will grant you bail until the date of the trial of issue and sentencing.

“But be under no illusion the most likely sentence will be one of immediate custody and you must prepare for that.”
