JURORS have convicted a man of raping an East Lancashire woman who he met through a popular dating website.

Scott Lazenby, 27, was also found guilty of groping a young mother, in Ashton-under-Lyne, who he had visited after exchanging details through a Plenty of Fish account.

And when police checked Lazenby's computer records, following one of his arrests, they found search terms relating to 'sexual assault' and references to sexual cases.

Lazenby, of Swift Close, Kidsgrove, Staffordshire, denied two offences of rape and one each of assault by penetration and sexual touching but was convicted after a four-day trial.

Trial judge Andrew Woolman remanded him in custody for pre-sentence reports until February 6.

The Colne victim told police how she had been kissing Lazenby when he tried to put his hand underneath her top.

She resisted his advances and made an excuse that she needed to go the toilet.

But when the woman came out of the bathroom, Lazenby pounced on her, throwing her onto a bed where he raped her twice.

Arrested and interviewed, he insisted any sexual contact with either of his accusers had been consensual.
