A FRUSTRATED man has said he is willing to pay for a ‘dangerous’ road to be resurfaced after a series of delays.

Dr Mridul Datta, 75, of Whinney Lane in Langho, said he would pay to improve the ‘horrible’ condition of the road and that Lancashire County Council had not improved it.

The consultant at Audley Health Centre in Blackburn, who has been practising medicine for more than 50 years, contacted the council last December to fix potholes that had appeared, but had not had a response.

A few months later, Dr Datta said the road was still in a really bad state and had become worse over the winter months.

A county council spokesman at the time said repairs had been made to the road, but due to the poor weather, the surface began to deteriorate again.

Dr Datta has now said ‘enough is enough’ and wants to take matters into his own hands to repair 100 yards of the road.

He said: “I’m really tired of the situation now, it’s becoming increasingly annoying.

“Everyone pays their council tax, everyone pays their road tax, I shouldn’t have to ask to pay for the dangerous road myself but I don’t see another option.”

Dwayne Lowe, the council’s highways manager for Ribble Valley, said: “We check Whinney Lane at least four times every year as part of our regular inspection regime and have responded to further reports from councillors and members of the public over the last year.

“We have repaired any defects found, and are aware that there is some additional wear to the road surface, however this does not pose a safety risk and is not at the level where we will carry out a repair.

“We repair any minor damage whenever we find it, and use survey data to target limited resources for further maintenance in the lifecycle of a road.”
