WATER rescue specialists were trotted out earlier this morning to help rescue a deer stuck in the canal.
The team of experts from Nelson were called to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal in Burnley at around 6.55am.
A spokesman for the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "It was an adult deer in the water off Trafalgar Street.
"It was swimming across but it could not get out because of the height of the banks.
"It had worked itself up into a bit of a state."
The animal was later released, albeit it away from the canal, the spokesman added.
