COUNCIL officers will tackle dangerous parking near Pleasington Playing Fields after a new car park for 40 to 50 vehicles is built.

It is to cope with growing numbers of people attending sports events there.

As Blackburn with Darwen planning committee approved the scheme, Tory spokesman and local councillor Alan Cottam called for action on badly parked cars.

He said: “People park dangerously on road’s roundabout all the time. We need something to be done about it when this carpark is complete.”

Chairman Dave Smith promised to make sure officers tackled the problem.

The new carpark will also take overspill cars for religious festivals at the nearby cemetery.

It will be on grassland in the Western corner of the fields near Tower Road north of the River Darwen.

The car park will be between the football pitches and Warren Wood.

The officers' report to the committee said a key aim was reducing hazardous parking which is frequent during the soccer and cricket seasons.
