TRIBUTES have been paid to an East Lancashire mum who died after she was found unconscious in a stream in the Lake District.

Ailsa Gordon, 49, of Kirkmoor Close, Clitheroe, was discovered with hypothermia in Glencoyne Beck, near Seldom Seen, Glenridding.

Around 50 people from Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team, North West Ambulance Service, Cumbria Fire and Rescue, and the Royal Navy, were involved in a rescue which lasted for more than two hours.

Neighbour Roland Hailwood, 69, said: “It’s a bit of a shock to be honest.

“She has lived in the area for around 18 years, and I know her husband, Jasper, very well.

“She was a good neighbour and we never had any disagreements at all.

“My thoughts are with the family.

“She was always very pleasant whenever I spoke to her.”

Mrs Gordon, who was a mem-ber of St James’ Church, Clitheroe, was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester, after being discovered on Tuesday, April 1.

It is understood she was taken to Manchester because of its specialist hypothermic treatment equipment and due to low staffing levels at other hospitals.

It is believed she was staying with her husband in a nearby holiday cottage.

Mrs Gordon died in the early hours of the following day.

A funeral is expected to be arranged at St James’ Church.
