BURNLEY High School’s new multi-million pound building is to be officially opened next month.

Students will start the summer term on Wednesday, April 19, in the Byron Street building which has been under construction since early 2016.

The project is being completed by Eric Wright Construction and bosses at the free school have always aimed to open the building next month.

The school has been based at Parkhill Business Park since it was set up by the Chapel Street Trust in 2014.

The business park has now been placed on the market for £2million.

The new building, which has been constructed on the site of the former Habergham High School, will house a two-form entry high school and a sixth form.

It willprovide spaces for 450 secondary and 200 sixth form students.

The school is adding an extra year group every September as well as recruiting more staff members to deal with the increased pupil rosta.

In a letter to parents headteacher Vicky Povey said: “April 19 will be dedicated time for our students to get to know their new surroundings with tours around the school.

“The remainder of the week will be taken up with preparations for our grand opening event on April 21.”
