A SEVEN-A-SIDE football tournament has raised more than £1,000 for a young boy battling cancer.

Hyndburn Leisure Centre hosted the 16 team competition to raise money to get three-year-old Charlie Procter to America for treatment.

Charlie, from Church, has liver cancer and his family are looking to raise money to fly him to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

Organiser Paul Hargreaves estimates that around £1,200 was raised by the competition.

He said: “It went really well apart from a few small hiccups.

“In the end it was a successful event and I appreciate everyone involved and I’m sure Charlie will be too.”

The tournament was won by High Fives FC.

Charlie’s parents were recently told that it would cost more than £315,000 to get him to America and pay for treatment.
