A BRIEF glimpse of summer could be on offer later this week – but it is not likely to last.

Weather experts predict a sunny Thursday bookended by unseasonal downpours.

A spokesman for the national forecaster, the Met Office, said: “It will be drier on Thursday with sunny spells before the threat of further showery rain by Friday.

“This morning will remain cloudy with rain expected to continue for most of it.

“However, through the afternoon it will brighten up with rain turning more showery, and some late sunshine is possible.

“It will be fairly breezy on Wednesday but showers will be lighter and more scattered.”

The mercury is not set to top 15C, while longer term forecast point to an unsettled start to August.
