PETER Dyke, assistant director of music at Hereford Cathedral, will give the popular Easter Monday organ recital in the cathedral.

"This year I’ll be playing a number of audience favourites, including Widor’s famous Toccata, Jeremiah Clarke’s Trumpet Tune, and music by Johann Sebastian Bach," says Peter. "There is sure to be something to please everyone!"

This year there will also be two evening gala concerts. The first will be given by Peter on Tuesday, June 9 and will include Edward Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March No 1. The second, on Tuesday, September 22, sees David Briggs, former assistant organist at Hereford and now an international concert organist, return to Hereford. "We are delighted that David is coming to give a recital here," said Geraint Bowen, director of music at the cathedral. "He is one of the finest organists in the world, and this is sure to be a spectacular recital."

The cathedral also hosts an annual series of lunchtime organ concerts, which take place at 1.15 pm on Tuesdays during the summer months. This year’s series begins on Tuesday, May 5, with a guide to the cathedral’s organs given by Geraint, Peter and William Fox, the cathedral’s organ scholar.

The series runs until late September, and sees players from St George’s Chapel, Windsor; Bristol, Sheffield and Worcester cathedrals; and many others coming to play Hereford’s world-famous Willis organ, widely deemed one of the finest in the country.
