EIS general secretary Jim Martin has been elected to the executive

board of the biggest international trade union body in the world.

Education International, formed by the merger in Sweden this week of the

World Confederation of Organisations of the Teaching Profession and the

International Federation of Free Teachers' Unions, has a membership of

more than 20,000,000. The EIS chief topped the poll in the WCOTP

elections for the new body's world executive.
