WASHINGTON: A new book contends that the late FBI Director J. Edgar
Hoover was a closet homosexual blackmailed by the Mafia into denying for
decades the existence of organised crime. Anthony Summers, author of
Official and Confidential: The Secret Life of J. Edgar Hoover, claims
that criminals Meyer Lansky and Frank Costello used photos of Hoover's
alleged homosexual activity with aide Clyde Tolson to ensure the FBI did
not target them.
