COLIN FISHER is expected to be absent when his Scottish Rugby Union committee colleagues meet to decide upon his future at Murrayfield after the latest accusation that the Exiles representative and Executive Board member has brought the game into disrepute.

Fisher, 55, has become a hugely controversial figure at Murrayfield, the former Scotland hooker having survived two previous attempts to have him removed from office.

Gordon Dixon, the SRU's president, is the latest senior figure to feel his behaviour has been beyond the pale. Dixon was shocked to learn that, on this occasion, a late-night drinking session during which team officials were asked by Peebles Hydro staff to remove Fisher from the lounge bar, had occurred after a junior match.

Armed with eyewitness accounts, Dixon contacted committee colleagues, but did not receive unanimous support for taking action.

"We are holding a meeting to discuss it tomorrow night, " he said yesterday. "I have respectfully asked him not to attend. It is a disciplinary matter that the committee has to consider.

Some folk have backed me, some haven't. We have to discuss it and see if anyone changes their minds."

Two years ago, Ken Scobie, the then SRU chairman, attempted to have Fisher expelled from the committee.

Last month, Fred McLeod, the interim chairman and chief executive appointed in January after a committee cabal which included Fisher forced David Mackay and Phil Anderton from office, invited him to resign over another incident.
